Carol Jean Amaral, 69, of Naalehu died Feb. 7 at Ka‘u Hospital. Born in Pahala, she was a cafeteria worker for Naalehu Elementary School, cook for Kilauea Military Camp and a Hana Hou Restaurant, factory worker for Mac Farms, educational assistant for Pahala Elementary School, receptionist for Ka‘u Family Health Center, babysitter and member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Ka‘u Roping &Riding Association and Naalehu Senior Citizens. Visitation 7:30-9:30 a.m. Saturday (Feb. 27) at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Naalehu. Funeral mass at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Naalehu Community Cemetery. Casual attire. Margaret Elizabeth Blackmer, 90, of Kurtistown died Jan. 22 at home. Born in San Bernardino, Calif., she was a retired teacher for Hilo Union School and taught at numerous Hilo schools. Jon Keiji Hayashi, 46, of Hilo died Feb. 5 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he worked for T H Y &Associates and was a scoutmaster for Higashi Hongwanji Boy Scouts Troop 78. Doris Jean Jacober (nee Lund), 92 of Sun City, Ariz., formerly of Waikoloa, died Jan. 26, 2016, in Freedom Plaza, Peoria, Ariz. She was a Realtor and former president of Kona Board of Realtors.
